The Nymph's Reply
[2], 3-7pp, [5], n.d. c.1916. Full crushed green morocco by Riviere & Son, raised bands, spine in six panels, title in gilt to second panel, author to third, remaining panels with central flower motif, petals being purple onlays, background with repeated tiny dots. Covers with elaborate strapwork frame, with coloured onlays of red, green, purple, tan, and citron, parts of the background again with repeated tiny dots, double line to edges, inner edges with rolled border, watered silk doublures and free endpapers, a.e.g. Illuminated on vellum, with silk guards, illuminated title, five illuminated pages, a single calligraphic page biography of Raleigh, and a colophon leaf, noting that the poem "will not be duplicated", and signed by Alberto Sangorski, as well as initial and final vellum blanks. Front silk endpaper with some loss, now repaired and recoloured, small Japanese tissue repair to foot of upper joint, some very minor discolouring to some of the vellum leaves, otherwise bright and clean. Housed in the usual straight grain morocco, watered silk lined, drop back box, with raised bands in six panels, the title to second panel, and the author to third. Extremities of the box rubbed, upper joint repaired, some damage to the silk lining with some loss, new silk pull. An attractive production, beautifully presented
