x, 252pp, modern full morocco, raised bands, spine in six panels, title in gilt to second, illustrator to third, remaining panels with central lozenge shaped tool and volute corner pieces, covers with double fillet bordering a single fillet frame, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, t.e.g., combed and waved marbled endpapers.

Externally very good indeed, internally the text is lightly browned but generally clean, the plates are quite bright and clean. Small previous owners book label to front endpaper. Complete with twenty-eight sepia aquatint plates (including a folded frontispiece and title page). Lacks the cancel C8 (as usual), but does have the errata slip bound in at the rear.

A lampoon on the Marquis of Hastings' governorship of India, and shows the public estimation of the East India Company, with its toleration of suttee for revenue purposes, and its total disregard otherwise of Hindu prejudices (Hardie English Coloured Books).
