Contemporary full morocco by Riviere, smooth back, spine with title and author inside a scalloped frame, illustrator's name within another scalloped frame, separated by gilt floral sprays, date to foot, all inside a double fillet border. Covers with double fillet border, floral sprays to corners, double fillet to edges, inner edges with small trefoil tools, marbled endpapers, t.e.g. 

Spine faded, covers lightly faded. Internally quite bright and clean

One of two hundred and fifty copies for England, (with another twenty-five for America), with proof illustrations by Hugh Thomson on China paper

Bound by Riviere in 1895 for L. S. Montague (or Montagu), 2nd Baron Swaythling (1869-1927), financier and co-founder of the anti-Zionist League of British Jews

 A unique copy of the most attractively printed edition of Pride and Prejudice, the large paper copy of the 'Peacock' edition. This copy is signed by the artist to the head of title, has the original cloth bound in at the rear, with the original cloth from the spine and upper panel of the smaller 'Peacock' edition, and the spine and upper panel of the rare dust jacket for the 'Peacock' edition, also bound in at the rear
