[Illuminated Manuscript] Masefield. John
Brown, Betty
701
Illuminated manuscript, 8pp (ignoring blanks), bound in full calf, smooth back, covers with single fillet gilt border and flower head corner pieces, marbled endpapers, probably bound by Riviere.
Spine faded, very slightly rubbed to extremities, internally bright and clean, with old acetate guards laid in to each page. Highly competent and attractive illuminating, done by Betty Brown in 1923.
With an A.L.S. from Alberto Sangorski, reading "Dear Miss Brown, Herewith I am sending you your illuminated manuscript bound in calf and I trust you will like it and hope you will still continue to keep to your writing and illuminating, as it would be such a pity to stop now having advanced so well. Your work has been greatly admired and you show great promise - I trust you are keeping well, Yours respectfully, Alberto Sangorski (Kind regards to your elder sister)".
Alberto Sangorski, a great calligrapher himself, was the brother of Francis Sangorski of Sangorski and Sutcliffe, but by this time Alberto was working for Riviere
